Frequently Asked Questions

If you are wondering what to expect, you’ll find answers to our most common questions below. If we haven’t covered something, just get in touch.

When are your classes?

We run classes on Wednesdays and Sundays:
Wednesdays: 17:30–18:30 Junior Class | 18:30–19:30 Cadet Class | 19:30–20:30 Senior Class
Sundays: 09:00–10:00 Junior Class | 10:00–11:00 Cadet Class | 11:00–12:00 Senior Class

How much are your classes?

Your first class is completely free, no pressure, no commitment, just register online before you arrive. After that, membership is £45 per month, which covers unlimited weekly classes. There are no fixed-term contracts, so you can stop at any time.

Do you offer a free trial?

Yes! We offer your first class free so you can experience Kojin-Kai Karate Club. Simply complete our online registration form to get started.

Where can I park?

The nearest car park is Elwick Place car park, which is a short walk from our training venue at 7th Ashford Scout Group Hall, Forge Lane, Ashford, TN23 1JW.

What should I wear and bring?

For your first sessions, just wear comfortable sportswear, a t-shirt and tracksuit bottoms, shorts, or leggings are all fine. If you decide to continue, you’ll receive a karate gi (uniform) as part of your welcome pack, along with annual insurance, a club badge, online resources, a licence, and a grading book.

I have no experience in martial arts. Is that okay?

Absolutely. Our classes cater for all abilities, including complete beginners. You’ll progress at your own pace in a supportive environment — no prior experience is needed at all.

I’ve trained before, but somewhere else. Can I still join?

Yes, and you’d be very welcome! There’s no background we’d turn away, whether you were licensed under, or which style you did. Karate, another martial art, a combat sport, it all counts for something once you’re on the mats.

If you’ve had a long break, that’s fine too. Plenty of people come back after years away.

If you’re coming from another karate dojo, it’s traditional to wear a white belt for your first class as a mark of respect. That’s a courtesy for the day, not a grade. Where you sit with us afterwards is something you and Sensei Ryan work out together once he’s seen you train and you’ve decided we are right for you.

Give us a call before you come, and we’ll talk it through.

Do you hold gradings and competitions?

Yes. We run in-house gradings so students can progress through the belts without needing to travel to external assessments. We also support competition participation for those who want it, and hope to host our own competition in the future.

Can I train with my family?

Family training is actively encouraged: siblings, parents, and even grandparents are welcome to train! Students aged 13yrs + can train with their parents/grandparents in the same class. We also offer family and friends discounts. **NEW CLASS COMING SOON**
