A club shaped by its students
Founded in 2024, Kojin-Kai is a family-run club shaped by our students.
Many of our members train alongside siblings, parents or friends, and this shared experience helps create a strong sense of connection within the club. We are not a franchise, a production line, or a results-driven black-belt academy.
Our philosophy
Our approach to karate
We teach traditional full-contact and semi-contact Kyokushin karate with a modern mindset. Our approach values effort over perfection, character over results, and long-term development over fast progression. Some students choose to compete, others do not, and both paths are equally respected.
Safeguarding, standards and care
The only Ashford club with the Safeguarding Code award
Our instructors bring over 30 years of combined karate experience and are fully DBS-checked, first-aid trained, and safeguarding-qualified. We are proud to be the only karate club in Ashford to hold the Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts award. This commitment shapes how we run our classes, including maintaining appropriate class sizes, prioritising safe and responsible coaching, and ensuring instructors can provide individual attention.
Independence and reinvestment
Being fully independent allows us to run gradings, events and club activities in-house, make decisions locally, and keep costs fair for our members. A significant proportion of our income is reinvested directly back into the club, supporting equipment, facilities and opportunities for students.

Karate can be taught. Effort can’t.
That part comes from within. We don’t expect talent or experience, at any age. We just ask for two things: enjoy your karate, and keep going when it gets tough. The students who thrive here are the ones who genuinely want to be here. Perseverance is one of the best things this sport teaches, and it goes with you far beyond the mats.

Is my child ready to start karate?
Most children start with us from the age of 5. However, we occasionally accept enthusiastic 4-year-olds who are ready to participate in a structured group class.
Every child develops at their own pace, so we also consider whether they’re ready to enjoy and benefit from karate.
Our classes work best for children who are able to:
- ✔ Join in with a group activity.
- ✔ Follow simple instructions from an instructor.
- ✔ Stay with the group throughout the lesson.
- ✔ Take turns and train safely alongside other children.
- ✔ Participate with a reasonable level of independence, without requiring continuous one-to-one support.
Karate is a physical activity taught in a group environment, so these skills help ensure every student can learn safely, make progress and enjoy their training.
If you’re unsure whether your child is ready, we’d be delighted to have a quick chat before booking a free trial.
